Snowy weather provides a great opportunity to engage in activities for kids of all ages. When I was little, a snowy day was like a giant gift because I could play all day in the snow, which I loved. Fortunately, it snowed a lot where I lived. Now that I am grown up, a snowy day can be just as fun because there are great snow day activities for kids of all ages.

Snowman

Snowman Building a snowman is one of the classic snow day activities for kids of all ages. Usually, adults only build a snowman when they are playing with children, but I challenge you to build one with a group of your older friends next time it snows. You might be surprised how fun it is to build a snowman with adults. On several occasions I have even built a snowman by myself and still had a fun time. Let’s face it, there is nothing quite like sticking a carrot nose on a snowman to bring out your inner kid!

Snow Castles

Snow Castles Building snow castles goes right along with building snowmen. Sure, it is always enjoyable to build them with children, but if the kids are away there is no reason not to have a little fun of your own. Building snow castles is a great way to bring a little bit of summer into the winter. I know it is cold outside, but the process is exactly the same as building a sandcastle. If you end up falling in love with your creation, you can spritz it with cold water to freeze it. This will allow you to enjoy your snow castle longer.

Sledding

Sledding I have never passed up an opportunity to go sledding. It is by far one of the best snowy weather activities. I love sledding on Radio Flyer sleds because they really do fly down a hill, but I will settle for a tarp in a pinch. Sledding is a great activity to do with your family or friends. For added winter charm, bring a thermos of hot cocoa with you. There really is nothing like hot cocoa after sledding.

Frozen Bubbles

Frozen Bubbles Have you ever tried to blow bubbles in cold weather? If it is cold enough they will freeze! I don’t care how old you are, this is entertaining at any age. I don’t think I would stand outside for hours blowing bubbles in freezing weather, but a few minutes of blowing bubbles and watching them freeze can definitely make any day brighter. Little science activities like this are always exciting, and if you do have kids they will love this trick.

Snow Angels and Snowball Fight

Snow Angels and Snowball Fight If you don’t mind getting covered in snow, making snow angels and having a snowball fight with friends is a great way to spend a snowy afternoon. As far as I know, everyone likes making a snow angel. There is something so wonderful about flopping in the snow to make a snow angel and then seeing your creation when you’re finished. Although, I think the best part is flopping in the snow. Since making snow angels doesn’t take much time, why not throw some snow balls at each other afterward? There is nothing like whacking someone in the butt with a snowball.

Twister

Twister Unfortunately, sometimes it is just too cold to play outside on a snowy day. I like snow, but I won’t go outside to play in it in ten degree weather. On those occasions it is always entertaining to break out Twister. I actually think playing Twister with adults is even more fun. They are much clumsier than kids and less agile, which means putting the right hand on green can look really funny.

Baking

Baking Baking is such a great snowy day activity. It makes the kitchen warm and smell good. You can watch the snow fall as you roll out cookies or put your cake in the oven. When your yummy treats come out of the oven it may be tempting to eat them, but don’t forget about decorating. Even if you are not artistically inclined, decorating is the best part. It is an excuse to make a mess, eat frosting, and break out the sprinkles.

In case you can’t tell, I love snowy weather. There are so many fun indoor and outdoor activities that you can do when it snows outside. I never miss a chance to have some fun in snowy weather. I may be an adult, but I still need to have a break to play every once in a while. What is your favorite way to play in the snow?
