15 Unique College Party Ideas ...

After going to so many parties with the same overdone themes, I got to thinking about what some good and unique college party ideas would be. They are the themes that make you dress up and let you show off your creativity. Although there are tons of awesome college party ideas, here are few of my favorites. They are sure to make a memorable night filled with wacky costumes.

1

Thrift Shop

Out of many college party ideas, this one was inspired by the incredibly catchy song by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. A Thrift Shop party is basically where everyone wears the weirdest and wackiest clothes they found down at a thrift shop. Anything from a giant fur coat, to mismatching sneakers, to a hideous sweater from the '80s; nothing is out of bounds. It is so much fun to see what insane outfits your friends can come up with.

2

College Movie Party

A College Movie Party is a party where everyone comes dressed up as their favorite character from any movie about college. They can be John Belushi from “Animal House,” Robert Carradine from “Revenge of the Nerds,” or even Anna Faris from “The House Bunny.” You can even give away a prize to whoever has the best and most creative costume.

3

ABC

This is not a party where you sing the alphabet; this is an “Anything But Clothes” party. People have to get dressed up, but the catch is they cannot wear real clothes. They can drape themselves in a shower curtain or duct tape a dress. As long as they are not wearing clothes, anything goes.

4

Snowpants or No Pants

If you don’t want to really commit to a college party idea, this theme might not be for you. At a Snowpants or No Pants party, you better come dressed ready to hit the slopes. And if you’re not, you better be prepared to take off your pants when you enter the door. That’s right, if you’re not in snowpants, you’re in no pants. This is not a party theme for everyone, but if you’re having a group of friends that you are really comfortable with, why not make things a bit more interesting.

UPD:

This article on unique college party ideas includes the suggestion of a Snowpants or No Pants party. This theme requires guests to either come dressed in snowpants or be prepared to take off their pants upon arrival. It may not be suitable for everyone, but it can be a fun and adventurous option for a close group of friends. This party idea could be a great way to break the ice and create a memorable experience. However, it's important to consider the comfort levels and boundaries of all guests before deciding on this theme.

5

Rubik’s Cube

This one is also a bit more interesting than the typical college party idea. At a Rubik’s Cube party, you have to wear one color of each side of a Rubik’s Cube. Your entire outfit from shirt down to socks must all be a different color. Then as the night goes on, you have to swap clothing with people of others colors until you have an outfit of just one color. It makes for an interesting party when people are taking off their socks to swap for a t-shirt. But word to the wise: wear a tank top underneath your outfit unless you really want to be the talk of the party.

Stoplight

Do you hate it when you are at a party talking to a cute boy all night and then find out he has a girlfriend? Well the Stoplight party is here to help. At a Stoplight party, people wear designated colors to tell if they are in a relationship, or not. Red means in a relationship, Yellow means not looking to hookup but still okay with some flirting, and Green means they are looking to hookup for the night. Regardless of what color they are wearing, their outfit is always a conversation starter at a Stoplight party. And it saves you the trouble of flirting with someone who is in a relationship.

7

Seven Deadly Sins

This college party idea is the perfect place to really show off your creativity in an outfit. You can pick from any of the Seven Deadly Sins (lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, pride) and turn it into an outfit. My favorite thing about a Seven Deadly Sins party is that there is such a wide range of what you can dress as. You dress sexier and represent lust, or you can wear sweatpants and be sloth. You are only limited by your creativity with this college party idea.

8

Graffiti

A graffiti party can be so much fun, even though it’s easy to set up! All you need are black lights, highlighters, butcher paper, and for your guests to wear white. Before the party starts, line your walls with butcher paper. Then, once people start showing up, hand all of your guests a highlighter and let them graffiti all over the walls—and each other! You can graffiti on each others’ clothes and on the wall, or simply dance like a crazy glowing person in the black lights!

9

Zombie Apocalypse

Okay, if this isn't fun, I don't know what is! Dim all of your lights and maybe get a strobe light in the room to create a sense of end-of-the-world chaos! Then, have your guests come dressed as zombies! It will be an unforgettable night of the walking dead.

10

Greek Mythology

Who doesn't love the gods and goddesses of Greek mythology? They're all so gorgeous and fun to imagine! Plus, there are so many that everyone could come dressed up as someone else! Will you be Athena or Aphrodite? Will your boyfriend be Zeus of Apollo? It's all up to you, and it will be great seeing everyone's unique costume!

11

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Who doesn't love a good Shakespearian comedy? This play is full of fantastic elements and gorgeous scenery! To recreate this play in your own apartment, decorate your space with fake moss and twinkling lights to mimic the forest. Then, tell everyone to speak in "thees" and "thous" all night long!

12

Rags to Riches

A rags to riches party is great because it appeals to everyone! People who like dressing up will get a chance to show off their nicest clothes. Your friends who prefer to bum it will get a chance to feel comfortable attending a party in baggy sweats and an old T-shirt! Make sure you don't have any inbetweeners though! Everyone should go all out!

13

Decades

This would be my ideal theme for a college party! Everyone can create their look on a different budget based on what decade they wish to represent. From the roaring 20's, to the groovy 70's, to the golden era of boy bands, the 90's! It will be so much fun to see everyone's different, wacky get-ups!

14

Luau

Who doesn't love a good luau? Right when finals or midterms are approaching, a luau may be just the sort of party your classmates are craving! Fill your apartment with flowers, blow up palm trees, and other Hawaii-esque decorations. Make sure everyone wears grass skirts and colorful leis! It will be a relaxing, tropical vibe in a fun, exciting party!

15

Pajama

Sometimes, the classics are just the way to go! Maybe it's time to revisit your childhood and all the fun-filled pajama parties you attended! Invite everyone to wear the goofiest pajamas possible— pink bunny footsies and all!
