1

They Never Eat Right before Bed

Among the sleep habits of successful people, I think that the most common is the fact that they never eat right before bed. Try to eat at least 3 hours before your bedtime because otherwise your digestive system would have to work too hard and this might cause you an upset stomach throughout the night and you won’t get enough rest. Also, try to avoid eating sugary foods at night because they could affect your blood sugar levels and you might wake up during the night, and then you might find it hard to go back to sleep.

2

They Don’t Drink Coffee Eight Hours before Bedtime

Studies show that coffee usually stays in your system for 8 to 10 hours, so if you want to get a good night sleep, avoid drinking coffee for at least 8 hours before you go to bed. Also, coffee depletes serotonin (the feel-good chemical that your brain produces), thus drinking too much coffee might make you feel anxious, depressed and it can even lead to insomnia.

3

They Meditate

I’m sure you are all aware of how many wonderful benefits a couple of minutes of meditation every day can bring you. You will feel, calmer, more rested, more energized and you will be able to focus much better on your tasks. Also, you will be able to reduce your stress level and sleep better at night. There are a lot of meditation techniques you can use, you just have to find the one that better suits your needs and practice it every day and I’m sure you will be satisfied by the amazing results.

4

They Shut out the Lights

This is another very common habit of highly successful people that you should definitely consider! Bright light represses melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating our sleep-cycle, so experts recommend to always dim the lights when you go to bed and the darker the room, the better. This way, you will feel more rested in the morning and you will be able to get your work done without stressing yourself out. You could try using some heavy curtains or even a sleep-mask if you feel comfortable with wearing such a thing.

5

They Avoid Drinking Alcohol before Bed

Even though you think that by drinking a glass of wine right before going to bed you might fall asleep easier, I must tell you that you are wrong. Even if alcohol makes you feel calmer and drowsy at first, studies show that it actually raises your core body temperature and it increases the number of times you wake up during the night, and also makes it more difficult to fall back asleep.

They Don’t Exercise at Night

Try not to exercise late at night just because you can’t find the time to do it during the day! A vigorous workout before going to bed might prevent you from falling asleep, so try to avoid them as much as possible before your bedtime. If you want, you could do some light stretching or some light yoga postures; these might help you relax and fell calmer. Try exercising in the morning, because it’s a terrific way to start your day and you will also feel more energized.

7

They Focus on the Positive Aspects of Their Day

Successful people tend to focus more on the positive aspects of life and they chose to ignore the negative ones. If you want to sleep better at night, when you go to bed, try to remember all the wonderful things that happened to you during that day and think of all the amazing things you can be grateful for. A lot of studies show that by expressing your gratitude you will improve the quality of your sleep. You could also make a list of all the things you want to accomplish the next day and think of how incredible you would feel if you manage to reach your objectives.

Getting enough sleep every night is essential in order to reach all your goals and take care of all your tasks. Do you get enough sleep? If not, what prevents you from doing it?
