7 Reasons Why I Wish I Was British ...

By Kelly

Even though it’s such a small country, recently I have been thinking about why I wish I was British. It’s the land of James Bond, the Beatles. Harry Potter, and so many other awesome things. The list goes on and on about things that Britain has to offer. Here is my list of my top reasons why I wish I was British. Now I am off to teatime!

1

The Style

Fashion may be universal but one of the reasons why I wish I was British is because of their distinct fashion sense. They are known for their “thrown together” sense of style, which I am personally a huge fan of. They don’t care if their tights have a run or if their hair is disheveled, they rock it anyway. And with style icons like Alexa Chung and Kate Moss, it is no surprise this sense of style is so popular there.

2

The Royalty

Sure, I am all for American government, but something about having a royal family appeals to me. Whether it’s the public figure or a philanthropist, a royal family does so much good for the country. Even though we have tons of public figures and basically an already royal American family, having a legitimate royal family would really spice up American life.

3

The Boys

This one may come to mind easily, but British boys are so much more attractive than American boys. You may think it is their accents or sense of style, but I personally think it is because of their supposed timidness. British boys are notorious for not being very forward in their flirting, and I think that is awesome. All too many times I have been approached by an American boy, who is much too forward for my taste. The fact that British boys are more timid and reserved when approaching girls is very attractive in my eyes.

4

Teatime

As a huge fan of tea, I have always wanted teatime to be a part of American culture. It seems as if everyone stops their day to have teatime with their friend or family. It is a social event for everyone to take some time out of their busy to enjoy the company of others. If only America would switch its love for coffee with a love for tea and teatime together, I would have one less reason why I wish I was British.

5

The TV Shows

As a huge Dr. Who and Sherlock fan, one of the huge reasons I wish I was British is for the amazing TV shows they have. Sure I can always watch BBC America, but it just isn’t the same. I wish I had tons of British friends who watched the same British shows as me so we could be obsessed together. Not to mention that so many American shows have been based off of British shows and for some reason I always enjoy the British version over the US adaption.

The History

Great Britain has such a rich history, it's impossible to not be captivated by it. Covering all areas from Shakespeare to the Beatles, Britain has so many interesting points as part of its history and culture. With such an incredible history that spans thousands of years, there is always tons of fun facts for you to immerse yourself in.

UPD:

Britain has a long history of influential figures in the arts, literature, politics, and science. From William Shakespeare to Isaac Newton, Britain has been home to some of the most influential figures in the world. Britain has also produced some of the world’s most iconic music, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and David Bowie. Britain has also been the birthplace of some of the most important inventions, such as the steam engine, the telephone, and the television. Britain is also home to some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, including Stonehenge, the Tower of London, and Big Ben. Britain has also been the location of some of the world’s most famous events, such as the Industrial Revolution, the Battle of Britain, and the Glorious Revolution. With such a rich history, it's no wonder so many people wish they were British.

7

The Accent

This one should probably be a given, but those accents are so cute! American boys may sounds nice, but nothing compares to a British accent. They sound so posh and fancy that I just can't help swooning over them. Any boy with a British accent is automatically 10 times more attractive in my eyes. The biggest reason why I wish I was British is so I can have an amazing British accent. I would probably never shut up.

Do you wish you were British? Do you agree with my reasons why I wish I was British? What are some reasons you wish you were British?

Im British Brummy and belive me America seems like a dream...in the UK all the boys think they have 'swag' they wear there jeans half way down their ass and jumpers woth half naked girls on them and tbh....most british people prefer American Tv and music..Pretty Little Liars and Hot Chelle Rae are WAY better than Casualty take me out and Elie Goulding...sorry people..but the grass isnt always greener on the other side. (Take this from a 14 year old from Birmingham)

I'm British!!

I only really met one British person before, she was lovely, had an adorable accent but told me the West's veiw on the UK is fabricated thanks to movies and books,I had people actually ask me (I'm Canadian) if all Canadians love Hockey and eat loads of maple syrup,i hate maple syrup but don't mind Hockey, stereotypes are wild

Are you serious? I think you've been watching too many BBC world broadcasts. Incidentally didn't your lot have an almighty great war in claiming independence from our bloody monarchy? You want the parasites - you go ahead have them and you pay for them, it'll come out of your tax dollar. The fashion and accent? Seriously, have you seen a fake burberry clad Chav and the ladettes from Essex and Newcastle covered in tattoos and dressed like strippers? They are usually shaped like pumpkins and most often spray tanned the same colour. The accent is virtually incomprehensible innit. You really are deluded. As for Harry Potter and James Bond - hate to tell you this but they are fictional. If you'd like to see a cross section of life I'd suggest you google James Turner Street in Birmingham.

Yes our country (UK) seems great but the grass is always greener on the other side. Sorry to burst your bubble but i think you have been watching too much tv! A bit of a generalisation. Boys are not shy!? where did you hear that. Some are, some arent, the same as anywhere! I drink a lot of tea, i agree, but we don't stop our day for it... we drink it with friends but the same way people drink coffee or a coke etc, no bone china and teacups unless your going out for some fancy meal perhaps, thats not the norm though!! Fashion sense is the same as most of the world, we follow trends and wear what looks nice but everyone likes different things. Accents differ between counties in the UK! Some are nice, some are not so nice, we don't all sound like hugh grant/ keira knightley or the queen haha! And most people here don't care about the royal family! Still, i love the UK and being english :) but hearing stereotyping is funny, don't believe everything you watch.

I am British lol, it's pretty awesome but we get like one impromptu week of summer and it rains way too much over here. The accent thing always confuses me though, do Americans typically mean London accents when you're talking about British accents? Cause we have such a wide variety tbh

Samantha has a very relevant point.

I am British lol .... We don't actually all stand around waving flags at the royals and having afternoon tea off a cake stand ya know..... We have weird orange people who have fake tanned so much they look like Oompa Loompas, we have different regional dialects, we have to be older to drive, but younger to drink alcohol legally, we're not all posh with magic wands and cut glass accents. Most of us are cold, wet and skint most of the time!

I am British and I hate to crack your dream but Britain is not all its portrayed to be. Many people think of lush green landscapes, people drinking tea from bone china, that everyone has a fabulous fashion sence n that the accent is just lush. I could not disagree with you more. The men are all Chavey and are so rude, the truth is most men are druggies that drink way to much get women pregnant and leave them, and hardly ever support or even see their child. Everybody wears track suits or just wears socks with sandals. The landscape Is filled with council estates, with doleies frauding the government just o get some free money. No body hardly sits down and drinks tea anymore, everybody's to busy working for tuppence or drinking themselves silly! And nobody except upper class- look down there noses people have nice posh accents, n if they crossed u in the street they would probably just ignore you. All the rest of the people use slang, can't spell, and usually have bad body odour. Trust me there's nothing special about the uk. Or there's a probability that u would find some immigrants, usually polish or Indian! Sorry to spoil your dream :( xx
